SUPER 8 FAQ’s

  • Super 8 films were introduced by Kodak in 1965 and quickly became a popular medium for home movies, producing a unique, grainy look that gives the footage a distinct vintage feel. It is a hand held video camera that uses actual rolls of film to capture your memories! The film itself is several feet long, and 8mm wide: hence the ‘8’ in ‘Super 8’!

Film comes in cartridges, and get developed in a lab with chemicals much like old school photo film is. It is then scanned, converting it to a digital form, and made accessible for post production, turning your moments into one of a kind, authentic memories.

  • Each cartridge yields between 1.5 and 2.5 minutes worth of video on average.

You can fit a full wedding or elopement day onto one cartridge for a short and sweet video! This will be much like a highlight reel, showcasing the best and most memorable moments.

Or you can order up to three cartridges for a longer more robust story telling video of your day! This ends up being between 4 to 10 minutes, and features many of the smaller and more candid moments of your day.

  • This is one of the things I love most about Super 8, because they DON’T capture audio.

This allows me to record, on a small voice recorder, the ambient sound from your day, you sharing your vows, or clips from your ceremony to intentionally include in your video!

Recording audio is always optional at no extra charge, and not at all a requirement if you don’t want voice audio in your video.

  • All of my Super 8 clients will receive three things:

    • the edited final version of their video

    • the raw footage direct from the scanners

    • the physical reel/s of film from your day as a pretty epic keepsake.

The digitals will delivered via a custom video hosted gallery just for you, that you can view and share with loved ones. The keepsake film reels will be shipped to you once I receive them from the lab.

  • Every Super 8 project has a varying turn around time. Depending on the amount of film cartridges you choose, and how many other jobs the lab is working on at the time of receiving your films, developing and scanning your films takes between 2 to 4 weeks. From that point I being post production and that too takes between 2 to 4 weeks. Throughout it all, I will keep you updated as to each mile stone, from shipping the cartridges, to beginning editing and sending your your developed reels too.
